Creating Linked Database to Filter your Master Database

Written by Charlene

Display Different Content Views Without Duplicating Databases

One of the most useful ways to organize content in Notion and Super is by using filtered database views.

Instead of creating multiple databases for different types of content, you can use a single source database and display customized views based on filters.

This makes content management easier while keeping your website more organized and scalable.

The Problem With Duplicate Databases

As websites grow, users often want separate sections for different types of content, such as:

  • Featured articles

  • Tutorials

  • Beginner guides

  • Latest updates

  • Internal resources

  • Changelogs

A common mistake is creating multiple databases for each section.

While this may work initially, it quickly becomes difficult to manage because content needs to be updated in multiple places.

How to Create a Filtered Database View

Step 1

Create your main database where all content will live.

Step 2

Add properties such as:

  • Category

  • Featured

  • Status

  • Visibility

  • Tags

Step 3

Create a linked view of the database.

Type:

/linked

Then select your database.

Step 4

Apply filters based on the content you want to display.

Examples:

  • Category contains “Tutorial”

  • Featured is checked

  • Status is “Published”
