Redirecting a page means automatically sending visitors from one page to another, or showing a message that a page no longer exists. This helps keep your website easy to navigate, prevents broken links, and improves your SEO.
n Super, you can set up temporary redirects (302), permanent redirects (301), or hide a page using a 404 error.
Why Use Redirects or 404 Pages?
Redirects and 404 pages help you:
Send visitors to the right page
Avoid broken or outdated links
Keep your site organized and user-friendly
Maintain or protect your SEO rankings
Tell search engines when a page has moved or been removed
This improves both visitor experience and search visibility.
301 vs 302 Redirects: What’s the Difference?
301 Redirect (Permanent)
A 301 redirect means the page has moved forever.
Best for:
Replacing an old page with a new one
Removing a page permanently
Changing website URLs
What happens:
Visitors go to the new page
Search engines transfer SEO value to the new URL
The old page is treated as gone for good
👉 Use 301 when the change is permanent
302 Redirect (Temporary)
A 302 redirect means the page is moved temporarily and will return later.
Best for:
Temporary updates
Short-term promotions
Testing different pages
What happens:
Visitors go to a temporary page
Search engines do not fully transfer SEO value
The original page is expected to come back
👉 Use 302 when the change is temporary
Simple Rule to Remember
301 = Permanent change
302 = Temporary change
If you’re unsure, 301 is usually the safer choice for SEO.
